-----------------------------------------------------
Once upon a time, in a Kingdom located 90 miles away from the Florida Keys, we didn't have Chinese bicycles yet ,and we only new about the BMX bicycles thanks to the foreign films.
"Los Fiñes", the little ones in the neighborhood used to spend the whole day driving up and down "Carriolas", a sort of homemade Cuban style scooter.
You can forget about the scooters though!
In order to drive the "Carriolas", and simultaneously skip out the holes in the streets, it was required for you to be a sort of a wheel master! -¡Qué mountain bike ni que ocho cuartos!- Don't talk to me about Mountain bikes flying over the sky with the full moon in the background, carrying ET home. The Carriolas'drivers were the real artists of the skies, flying over every puddle they encounter. They went to the Moon and back in a 1500 meters race jumping over the street craters.
Right before the night fell in the neighborhood our moms started to scream our names out: Alfreditooooooooooooooooooo. The only Carriola in the vicinity was almost dead by the time the last kid went back home. You could see smoke coming out of the wheels. A toy is never so dear to a child than when it becomes the source of a delightful entertainment in the midst of the scarcity. That is why "The Carriolas" have a very special place in our hearts.
